The History of ELMIS
Emilia L. Malabanan Integrated School (ELMIS) emerged as a beacon of educational opportunity in response to the fervent commitment of the Department of Education to serve the entire community within Barangay Malabanan. Nestled strategically between the two distinct sitios of Sampalocan and Saimsim in the eastern reaches of Barangay Malabanan, ELMIS stands as an oasis of learning, approximately 8-9 kilometers away from the bustling city.

This locale, predominantly characterized by agricultural terrain, finds its residents primarily engaged in farming, with seasonal cultivation serving as their economic lifeline. Malabanan itself claims the title of the largest barangay within the Municipality of Balete, harboring the highest population density. However, the educational landscape was marred by challenges, most notably the constraint of space at the sole educational institution in the area, Malabanan Elementary School. This spatial limitation precipitated overcrowded classrooms, casting a shadow over the quality of education provided to the students.

In 2006, a pivotal moment arrived when the Department of Education (DepEd) approved the establishment of an annex school to cater specifically to the learners hailing from the neighboring sitios of Sampalocan and Saimsim. This nascent educational institution was christened as Saimsim Primary School (Malabanan E/S Annex), initially equipped with just two modest classrooms. By the year 2010, the institution underwent a transformation and was rebranded as Emilia L. Malabanan Elementary School, asserting its independence from its parent school.

The school's journey didn't stop there. Embracing the vision of DepEd's "Education for All" and "No one should be Left Behind" programs, ELMIS embarked on a mission to ensure that every child in the community had the opportunity to complete their high school education. Recognizing the pressing need to safeguard the children's security and well-being, especially those compelled to commute to a nearby city for their studies, the school made a resolute decision. This decision aimed to alleviate the burden of overloaded transportation services and rising expenses, which had forced some students to discontinue their education after completing elementary school.
The turning point arrived in the school year 2018-2019 when ELMIS proudly commenced offering Grade 7. This marked a significant milestone in the school's evolution, prompting a name change to Emilia L. Malabanan Integrated School, signifying its comprehensive commitment to delivering quality education at both the elementary and junior high school levels.

Today, ELMIS stands as a testament to unwavering dedication, having already celebrated two successful graduation ceremonies for its Junior High School students. The school continues to serve as a shining example of educational inclusivity and empowerment within the Barangay Malabanan community.
