The Municipality of Balete
Balete, officially known as the Municipality of Balete, is a 5th class municipality nestled in the picturesque province of Batangas, Philippines. As of the 2020 census, it is home to a population of 24,055 people, known locally as Baleteños. What distinguishes Balete is its enchanting location along the shores of Taal Lake, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the majestic Taal Volcano. Moreover, the revered pilgrimage destination, Marian Orchard, graces Barangay Malabanan, adding to the municipality's cultural and spiritual significance.

The name "Balete" itself draws its roots from the abundance of balete trees that once flourished in the area, creating a distinct identity for this remarkable place.

In its early history, Balete was a humble barrio under the jurisdiction of the City of Lipa. As recounted by the venerable elders, the landscape of Balete was once adorned with an abundance of balete trees, which gave rise to its moniker. Among the first settlers were Jose Magapi and his family. However, it was after the eruption of Taal Volcano in 1911 that the landscape of Balete saw significant changes. The prominent real estate property owners, brothers Venancio and Ricardo Macasaet of Looc, played a pivotal role in shaping the community. Additionally, Pablo Maralit, a highly respected figure during that era, resided in Barrio Makina, leaving an indelible mark on the history of the area.

From 1910 to 1969, several dedicated leaders served as Teniente del Barrio in Balete, including Federico Dimaano, Ricardo Macasaet, and Maximo Cabrera, to name a few. Their contributions and leadership left a lasting legacy in the development of the community.

A significant turning point in Balete's history occurred on June 21, 1969, when the Congress of the Philippines passed Republic Act No. 5659, granting Balete municipal status. This transformation included the establishment of 13 barangays within its jurisdiction: Alangilan, Calawit, Looc, San Sebastian, Solis, Makina, Sala, Sampalocan, Magapi, Malabanan, Paligawan, Palsara, and Poblacion.

Over the years, Balete has been guided by dedicated municipal mayors, each contributing to the growth and progress of the municipality:
